Keep old fairgrounds in service for youth organizations

To the Editor,

What to do with the old soon-to-be old fairgrounds seems to be a concern of many of Loveland’s citizens. As most people, I also have some ideas as to what to do with the fairgrounds. I say let’s preserve it for the children of Loveland and the surrounding areas!

For years it has been a haven for the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and especially the many local 4H clubs. The Boys and Girls Club is looking for a new place to call home in Loveland. Perhaps Colorado Youth Outdoors and Hearts & Horses would like to use the facilities.

With very few changes we can preserve the area and make it attractive to many organizations. We have admired hot rod shows, Loveland’s own Corn Roast, and the library has sold its used books there. The McMillan building has been used for so many events and could continue to do so. We could also make use of the rodeo arena for concerts and equestrian events.

The parking lot could be expanded and a shuttle service to downtown could solve the age old problem of the need for more parking in the area.

If we think really big maybe the sculpture shows could relocate there and relieve some of the traffic congestion.

Above all, our children are our future and we need to support organizations that teach them to be responsible and to govern their lives in a principled manner. We need to ensure that they continue to have a place to meet.

It is my hope that we do not spend one dime to some consulting company to have some outsiders tell us what is best for our community. I am running for city council in Ward 2 and look forward to finding low cost practical common sense solutions to ensure Loveland maintains a good quality of life for everyone.
