Midterm Elections, 2002
The victory for Republicans in the mid-term elections is definitely sweet. It is hard not to gloat when encountering acquaintances in the democrat party. However, we must not become complacent and savor our victory for too long. This most recent election may be the last victory we see for some time if we do not take advantage of the momentum and become hyper-vigilant to their next moves. The democrats have been wounded deeply and like a pit bull gored by a wide boar they will retreat to the barn for a while and lick their wounds. Like any good fighting dog, they will emerge, meaner than ever, looking to regain their status. We had better be prepared. Unlike many Republicans, I take the time to monitor the internet sites of the left. They are angry. They are vile. They are doing a lot of self-examination. They are preparing for a comeback. One of the main themes that they express is not unlike what I feel about politics over the past few decades. They believe that they lost because their party was too centralist. They are mobilizing and are planning to come back into the arena far more to the left than they have been in the recent past. Many feel that their party abandoned their principles by trying to appease the republicans. I have felt the same every time a republican politician sacrificed his or her principles for the sake of appearing to get along with the left leaning democrats. It is time to stand on principles with great fortitude! I have had it with the term 'bi-partisan'. A bi-partisan is a moderate and a moderate to me is a person who is not guided by a moral compass, is not driven by principles, and will cave in not to be labeled mean-spirited or uncooperative. These people care more for themselves and their chances of re-election than the good of our beloved country and its founding principles. The recent death of Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone taught me a lot about the man. I always knew he was a far left socialist democrat and I did not agree with his political point of view. However, as people eulogized him, I did gain respect for the man. You see he was a man of great principle. We may not have agreed with him, but he did not waiver from what he believed in. We should be so fortunate to have even a dozen or so people with the caliber of his tenacity on our side. We must remember that we are in a spiritual war. It is a battle between opposing ideologies. One side believes there is a Creator that has endowed us with unalienable Rights, and government's purpose is limited to securing these Rights. This side believes in the inherent goodness of people and a less intrusive government. The other side believes government is the answer to every thing. They believe that our rights are come from the government. We should all examine our hearts, decide which side we are on, and take a stand. The press would have us believe that this past election was about the president's agenda. I believe it was a culmination of pent of frustration and republicans seizing what many may perceive to be the best, maybe the last, opportunity to turn the tide of liberalism that has stained our great nation For decades, we have been bombarded with political correctness, the tearing apart of family values, the blatant moral decay of society, the constant barrage of the perverted agendas of many groups and the dumbing down of our schools. We have been plagued with the redistribution of our wealth, the seizing of private property and a never-ending list of violations of our Rights by numerous government agencies designed to create an atmosphere of fear. I filled in the little ovals on my ballot with determination and a sense of urgency guided by the aforementioned list of frustrations. The felt tip of the pen I used could have worn flat with my ballot alone. Therefore, my suggestion is that all elected congressional representatives truly search their souls, and when they take the oath of office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic, they do it with such emotion that it sends shivers down their spines. As for the rest of us, it is time to stoke the fires and hold their feet close.
