Replace progressive income-tax system
There is a controversy about taxes and who should pay their fair share. The favorite saying of the progressive/socialist left is 'the rich aren't paying their fair share.' I don't think it is the rich that are holding back. The Communist Manifesto outlines the goals of Communism on page 94. The second goal is A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. Perhaps it is time to move away from the Communist model of taxation. Imagine not fretting April 15th. Imagine keeping your whole pay check. Imagine not have to keep records of your income. Imagine no IRS. I wonder if you can. If we expect the wealthy to pay their fair share then we should first abolish the immoral income tax designed to examine every aspect of our lives and then implement a national sales tax. Americans for Fair Taxation (www.fairtax.org) proposes a consumption tax to replace the income tax. If you choose to buy any new good or service, a consumption tax will be added into the price. This way the more one spends, the more tax that person pays. The rich would indeed pay their fair share. Being a citizen of this country, we are guaranteed a few things by the federal government. These are in the United States Constitution in Article. IV [Section 4.] The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion… That is it. No where in the constitution are the words education, health, housing, energy or even the word democracy. The United States government guarantees these same protections to every citizen, no more, no less. Why should those who take the initiative to work hard and take risks to realize the blessings of liberty be expected to pay more than someone who chooses not to. After all, everyone receives the same guarantees. This year the federal government will spend $2,292,000,000,000. The population in the United States at the time of this writing is 293,221.690. That breaks down to approximately $7,602 for every man, woman and child in America. Are you paying your fair share? If we were all paying our truly fair share then we could honestly decide if we wanted to pay for entitlements because everyone would be responsible for their fair share. As it now stands, some people want entitlements as long as someone else is footing the bill. We are becoming a nation of freeloaders. Many look to the government as their savior. Karl Marx is no doubt smiling as we steadily move toward his Communist goals. The more “entitlements” or free stuff we give away the easier it is for the working class to ask themselves why they continue working to support everyone else. Soon the line will be crossed when there are more people receiving entitlements than are paying for them. Then we will have a economic collapse that will make the Great Depression look like child's play. Communism/Socialism just does not work. Name one country where it flourishes and gives people the freedom and liberty we enjoy in the United States of America. What it really does is make people slaves to the government. Our Founding Fathers made the role of the federal government. Maybe it is way past time to throw off the shackles of the bloated, bureaucratic, expensive government. With each federal freebie comes more restrictions on liberty. There is no free lunch. Remember, the government that is big enough to give you every thing you want is also big enough to take it all away. Tom Buchanan
