Bridges Over The Rivers and Freeways

The recent collapse of the 35W bridge over the River Mississippi in Minneapolis has eerie similarities to the levies in New Orleans. Both tragic events could have been prevented. Both were known to be defective or not structurally strong enough and had the potential to collapse or be breached. Both were apparently ignored by elected officials for political reasons.

Government is limited it its function by the United States Constitution. The Constitution clearly spells out what the government should be responsible for in a free society. The words education and health care are not even, not once, mentioned in the documents that supposedly guide our elected officials. So why are these words such a prominent part of our society? It is politics, plain and simple.

The American people have been sold a bill of goods by clever snake oil sales men and women. Yes, they promise to take care of you from cradle to grave and the price is dependence and mediocrity. It comes with a cost that is dear to many, individual freedom and liberty.

The gross amount of money that we have spent on things that only benefit politicians in their bid for power is staggering and is stolen from the treasury and takes away from things that the government is charged with providing. These include roads and preventing invasions.

More bridges and other infrastructure will continue to erode and finally collapse. When they do we should not be surprised because we have made our choice that education, health care and other government sponsored socialist agenda items have taken precedence over maintaining our roads.

And just think, instead of maintaining our current infrastructure our elected officials are proposing an Alaskan “Bridge to No Where” and a new NAFTA super highway from Mexico to Canada. Maybe we should take care of what we have first!
