Man Barricades Himself In His Own Home, Update
July 15, 2002 Lovingston, Colorado Ben Adams has barricaded himself in his home for almost one year. The Lovinston, Colorado man is more convinced now than he was a year ago that he does not want to be part of an America gone insane. We contacted Adams via short wave radio for this exclusive interview. Mr. Adams began his protest on July 31, 2001. He just wanted to be left alone. He has been harangued by the press and the police. Some people around the country agreed with his assessment of the state of the nation and joined him by not coming out of their homes. "America is crazier than ever", Adams said. "I thought it was bad enough a year ago, but since 911 this country has gone bonkers. Airport security is a joke. Now they want to extend the perimeter to the ticket area so that airport security can have a wider selection of elderly women and children to strip search. It won't be long until the perimeter is extended to the parking lot and then onto the route to the airport. Why on Independence Day they were stopping people from entering Mt. Rushmore if they had nail files or finger nail clippers. It took decades to carve those head in the granite with jack hammers and dynamite. Did they really think anyone could do any damage with a nail file?" Adams went on to point out more government silliness in the guise of protecting us from terrorists. "There are signs up at Carter Lake, a local reservoir that say that you can't walk on or near the dams. There are buoys in the water to keep boats from getting within 500 feet of the dams. The insane part of this equation is that the traffic travels on roads on top of the dams. If a terrorist wanted to use tons of explosives to blow up a dam I think it would be much easier to just drive it to where you wanted to do the damage than drag a bunch of 55 gallon drums by hand. Those things are heavy." he pointed out. He went on to rail against the latest government program 'Spies are Us' "The Terrorism Information and Prevention System, or TIPS is a part of the Citizen Corps. They have website www.citizencorps.gov where you can signup online. The goal is to have one in every 24 Americans signup to spy on their neighbors. What's that come out to, about 11 million spies. There are so many busy body folks with way too much time on their hands. I bet that hot line will be red hot and overloaded with all of the sightings of people taking pictures of the Washington Monument or people waiting too long after the light turns green in Detroit. I have had my share of nincompoops! Last year social services sent in the SWAT team just because I didn't want to come out of my house. Haven't these people got anything better to do?" "And what about our borders?", he went on "We have documented proof of terrorists invading our country across our southern border and disappearing into the California population and we turn the other way because we might offend someone. Where is the sanity in that train of thought?" Adams explained how he has managed to maintain over the past year. "For now the police have left me alone, although the pesky social worker stops by every so often to see if I am still breathing. I do go out in the yard to tend to my vegetable garden and check my traps for any unsuspecting rabbits and squirrels. I have a few friends that drop off supplies once in a while and a group has taken up a fund to pay my electric and water bills. I keep track of the insanity through the internet and my trusty ham radio." He explained. "It used to be that you had to protect your home from criminals. Now with this new fangled 'Patriot Act' government agents can come into your home without a warrant and snoop around to their heart's content. This should have been called the 'Loyalist Act', it would be more fitting. This is just one more reason to barricade yourself in your home. It makes sneaking in by government agents more of a challenge to them." Adams ended our conversation with a note of thanks. He said, "I would like to say thank you to all of the fine folks who have supported me throughout the past year. God bless you all!"
