The Side Effects of Political Correctness

Two recent outbursts by celebrities have me wondering if there are side effects to political correctness. First, actor Mel Gibson went on an anti-Semitic rant following his arrest for drunken driving. More recently, Michael Richards who played Kramer on the television show "Seinfeld exploded in anger, hurling racial epithets at two hecklers.

Immediately after their tirades both said their words did not reflect their thoughts. Mel Gibson claimed he was not anti-Semitic and Michael Richards went on television apologizing and declaring he was not a racist.

It really makes me wonder how many of these explosions of repressed freedom of speech occur that we are not aware of. We only hear when some famous person goes off the 'deep end'. How many others are there? How many people have simply chosen to withdraw from society because they are afraid to speak their mind, or have a slip of the lip that would charge them with racism or some other form of bigotry?

Political correctness affects every aspect of our lives. It is no accident. The promoters and defenders of political correctness know exactly their goals. The goal is simply the destruction of individual liberty and freedom and to get everyone thinking alike and doubting their own thoughts.

Political correctness is a weapon of mass destruction against a free society.

Political correctness is driving people crazy because it goes against common sense. Euripides, a Greek tragic dramatist is quoted as saying “Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.”

The whole population guards their speech and actions, calculating every word that leaves their lips trying to ensure that they will not offend anyone. Politicians are vilified and forced to resign for the slightest remark that can be deemed in anyway offensive to anyone.

What makes a population behave like this? The answer is simple, yet complex. It is political correctness. We are being molded into zombies that are not supposed to have any individual thought. We are being forced to get along with people with whom we disagree or have nothing in common with.

One of the benefits of living in a free society is the freedom to associate with those of like mind. It seems as though any organizations based upon freedom of association has been infiltrated and invaded by those that do not believe in freedom of association by anyone other than themselves. There has been an assault on any organization that begins with 'Men's'. However, the same enthusiasm does not exist to break apart any organization that begins with Women or Black or any other minority group.

So what has political correctness accomplished? It has repressed the thoughts and language of the majority of the population. This repression of speech is contrary to true freedom. This repression of thought creates a pressure cooker atmosphere in the collective consciousness of the population. Sooner or later explosions go off and we sit bewildered when it happens. Freedom of association and the ability to express oneself without reprisal are societal relief valves that must be restored lest we will experience emotional explosions at an ever-increasing group level in response to being repressed.

The experiment of making little boys behave like little girls should be declared over immediately. The teacher unions have pressed for better working conditions and the most obvious method is to drug the ambition and spirit from little boys who are not wired to sit quietly for hours in a controlled situation such as a classroom.

Instead of allowing them more time to let off the exuberance of youth teachers instead the answer is they need more school and they need it earlier. Just the opposite is true in my humble opinion. The purpose of kindergarten at one time was to prepare children for the first grade. Now teachers are crying out that children are not ready for school when they get to kindergarten. When will children be ready for school; fresh from the womb?

If one cannot get along with those around them we drug them into submission. We want little boys to suppress the zeal of childhood and remove the spark of competition from them. We demand that everyone be nice. For the past few years, school shootings have been a constant in news across the nation. It has been found that many of the shooters have been on some sort of SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) like Prozac, Ritalin, Zoloft, Luvox, Paxil, and others. Undoubtedly they were on those drugs because they did not fit into the politically correct ideal of the perfect child.

Political correctness also takes its toll on achievement by discouraging competition. The belief is that for every winner there are many losers. Losers tend to not feel as good as winners so we can't have that now, can we?

We no longer desire for the best of the best, but rather the most mediocre of the mediocre. We are headed toward a plain vanilla society where we all think the same thoughts and voice the same opinions.

These seemingly unrelated outbursts just might be the manifestations of political correctness. How many Americans are hoping that they are not the one making the headlines or on the evening news for going off the deep end?
